University Secretary and Director of Governance and Legal Services
Reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor and Chair of the Board of Governors, Anna is responsible for the strategic leadership of the university's corporate governance, legal, compliance, institutional licencing and risk functions. She serves as Clerk to the Board and provides expert advice on governance and
regulatory frameworks, ensuring institutional accountability, transparency and regulatory compliance.
Anna's professional journey began as a research scientist specialising in DNA repair, where she earned her PhD under the guidance of Nobel Laureate Tomas Lindahl. Anna went on to do clinical science/postdoctoral work at Barts and the London NHS Trust. She transitioned into research management and administration, and held leadership roles at Queen Mary, University of London and (former) St George’s, University of London, where she was Chief Operating Officer.
Anna is a member of the Association of Heads of University Administration and a panel member for Advance HE Athena Swan initiative. In addition to her contributions within the academic sphere, she has also served as an elected member of a primary school’s Board of Governors, as a Vice-Chair of the Facilities and Curriculum Committees; and co-director of a Community Interest Company, reflecting her longstanding commitment to public service and inclusive leadership
