Register with a doctor

Please register with a local or university doctor as soon as possible when you arrive at university.

If you are not registered, you may have difficulty getting an appointment, and crucial time could be wasted in an emergency.

For most students, we recommend you register with a GP surgery near where you live. You can also register with our on-site medical centre in Brighton. Registration with our on-site centre will take place online – please do not drop in to the centres to register.

International students

All students studying in the UK for six months or more are eligible for healthcare through the National Health Service (NHS). All international students are required to pay an immigration health surcharge of £470 per year to be eligible for NHS treatment.

Students studying for shorter periods can use NHS services but will usually be expected to pay. Even if you are eligible for free treatment you should take out adequate health insurance to cover other medical related costs.
