Study or work with us

Much of our work involves and includes diverse communities. Participants, collaborators, audiences and co-researchers join with us in our research as to the potential at the heart of the relationship between arts and wellbeing.

We welcome new members, either as University of Brighton academic staff members, University of Brighton postgraduate student members or associate members, from professional and community backgrounds.

Talk to us about how we can work together to develop the understanding of the arts in a context of health and wellbeing.

As well as postgraduate research student opportunities, we develop co-productive research projects and also host and organise exhibitions of the work our researchers, associates and communities have been involved with.

Study for your PhD with the Centre for Arts and Wellbeing

We have an astonishing range of opportunities at the University of Brighton for PhD study that crosses between arts practices and issues of healthcare and wellbeing.

Recent successful students have included projects on: community-building design, designing engagement with therapeutic equipment, autoethnography and narrative identity, ethnic identities in photography, drawing practices and conflict zones.

We recommend approaching one of our academics to discuss possible supervision. You might also like to explore the university's PhD programmes and themes related to arts and health.

We have had successfully funded PhDs in arts and wellbeing across our academic disciplines and look forward to working with promising candidates on applications for funded PhDs (including four year funding to include a research masters route) through the ESRC South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership (SC DTP) or the AHRC Techne Doctoral Training Partnership. Please make contact with us for further details.

Work with the Centre for Arts and Wellbeing

Our researchers are always keen to hear of new communities that might benefit from the work they have already modelled or help extend our work towards new understandings wider influence.

We also organise visiting academic places and work with partner academic institutions.

Please contact Duncan Bullen, D.Bullen@brighton.ac.uk, for further information.

Visit our events and exhibitions

The Centre for Arts and Wellbeing is committed to an ongoing series of initiatives that invites a wide public to engage with the university's work.

We host events throughout the year, including symposia, lectures and exhibitions, drawing on those communities and projects we work with.
