What you could get
If you’re starting a full time undergraduate course in 2025, you could receive a Get Started Boost to help with your commuting costs in your first year. This support is based on how far you live from your main teaching campus during term time. If your term time address is within 15 miles, you’ll receive £500. If you live more than 15 miles away, you’ll receive £700.
This is awarded automatically after enrolling on your course. You will need to be in an English postcode
How it works
Eligible students who are starting full-time undergraduate courses in 2025 and who are travelling from their term-time address to study are eligible for at least £500 to help them meet first year travel costs.
£700 is available for eligible students with longer daily journeys to university.
Who is eligible
- Full-time, UK University of Brighton undergraduate students living in eligible IMD Q1, 2 or 3 postcode area local postcodes, who are starting courses in 2025.
- You also need to be
- normally resident in England
- and a UK national, or an Irish citizen, or have settled status.
Exception: Students starting healthcare courses
Students starting healthcare courses who are eligible for NHS Learning Support funding and/or NHS help are not eligible for Brighton Boost 'Get Started' support if living outside of university halls.
Local students (within 15 miles)
If you live between 0–15 miles from your Brighton campus you can receive £500 in your first year to help you get started.

If you're also eligible for the Brighton bursary, this rises to £1,000 in Year 1, plus £500 in years 2 and 3.

If you’re a care leaver or estranged student, this increases to £1,500 in Year 1, plus £1,000 in years 2 and 3.
Commuter students (over 15 miles)
If you live more than 15 miles away, you can receive £700 in Year 1.
