Childcare

The university has made the very difficult decision to permanently close our One World Nursery facility. It was closed following the first lock-down in March 2020 and although it re-opened in September 2020, it has been closed again since January 2021, and will not now reopen.

The decision to close the nursery is no reflection on the outstanding work undertaken by the team. Sadly however, One World has run at a financial loss for several years, and this deficit has grown steadily following the pandemic, this is set in the context of the wider financial impact that COVID-19 has had on the university.

This means that effectively student fees are subsidising the nursery, whilst only a small number of university staff and students are using it. We have therefore very reluctantly decided that we cannot continue to sustain this position.

We know that this decision will have an impact on our existing clients. We hope that the timing of this decision will provide them with the time to be able to find alternative care from one of the many local providers.

Childcare can take many forms, and at Brighton we offer remote and face-to-face support for parents and carers.

Our community is welcoming and inclusive, where everyone feels they belong. We encourage a safe but stimulating environment where adults and children can play and learn together. Our practitioners are highly experienced and reflective. We are passionate about child development and working alongside families to facilitate positive outcomes for all.

Supporting you remotely

COVID-19 continues to have its ups and downs, with lots to juggle and different feelings to consider and manage. As parents and carers, you are likely to be faced with new challenges every day. Our experienced One World nursery team have an abundance of skills and practical knowledge that may be able to help you.

What we can offer

  • Friendly support for pre-school children, or adults with children
  • Advice and support surrounding behaviours; new, expressive and challenging
  • Advice and support on daily routine and transitions
  • Advice and information on school readiness and school admissions
  • Activity ideas and useful links
  • Links to relevant support for you and your child, for example professional diagnosis and behaviour interventions.

The advice we can give is on a voluntary basis and is free. This does not, of course, substitute for medical or psychological support but we hope can support parenting.
