Events, pilgrimages and discussion groups

Our Faith and Spirituality Team and Spiritual Advisors organise discussion groups on current affairs and moral issues, and excursions to various locations which prompt reflection. They also host and promote other events throughout the year, where you can have fun and meet new people.

Upcoming events arranged by our Catholic Faith Advisor

  • Every Tuesday: Weekly music group, in partnership with the University of Sussex. The group meets during term time to practice and provides the music for the 6pm Sunday Mass. Practice timings for 2022–23 to be confirmed.
  • Deep Waters Group: every Friday Night at St Joseph's Catholic Church on Elm Grove. From 7pm: food, talks, prayer, social. For more info visit our Facebook page.
  • Sundays at St Joseph's: join us for lunch after 11am Mass, and a monthly countryside walk.
  • Adoration, Praise and Worship Night - Friday 4 November at 6.45pm: Join us for an evening of Adoration and Praise and Worship at St Joseph's church on Elm Grove. Everyone is very welcome! Afterwards, the students/young adults are invited to a social with food and a bar in the basement of 6 Wellington Rd.
  • Retreat Weekend - 25–27 November 2022: All students are welcome to come on retreat to Worth Abbey, a monastery in the countryside 40 minutes away from Brighton. The weekend will include space, prayer, talks from monks, sharing, friendship, beautiful scenery. For more information, visit the Catholic Student Centre Facebook page.
  • Holy Week Pilgrimage and Easter Retreat - 2–9 April 2023 at Worth Abbey. Keep the dates free! More info in the New Year.

Regular events arranged by our Jewish Faith Advisor

  • Every Friday: Friday night Shabbat dinner, hosted by the university’s Jewish Faith Advisor Rabbi Zalman Lewis, at the local Chabad Jewish Student Centre.

Trips

We also arrange pilgrimages, retreats and excursions, for example to the ecumenical community of Taizé in France, Worth Abbey, and Walsingham in Norfolk. They offer a fun opportunity for prayer, discussion and exploration.

Advent Retreat at Worth Abbey

2–4 December

A retreat for students and young adults: a space to go deeper in the spiritual life and faith, to explore, share, rest, learn, build community, enjoy friendship. The retreat provides an opportunity to experience the monastic rhythm of prayer and silence, to have space from your busy lives, and to encounter God in a new and deeper way.
Cost: between £60 and £120
