Eschmann Equipment

Eschmann Equipment designs and manufactured medical products and devices, supplying hospitals, GP surgeries and dental practices across the globe.

Eschmann has employed a number of placement students over the years to help meet staffing needs, which has proven to be an effective strand of the company's staffing strategy as it allows managers to see whether an individual has appropriate skills for the job, and is a good fit for the company. Placements students can also free-up full-time employees, giving them more time for other projects.

Meet the placement student

Joe Simes, a Mechanical Engineering student from the University of Brighton, has been on placement at Eschmann.

Eschmann recently added a new table to their range of surgical equipment, which meant the production line needed to be redesigned to accommodate the new product. Joe was taken on to help with this project and to support the production engineer.

Joe was able to transfer his understanding of modern methods of manufacturing and computer modelling, learnt whilst at university, to help design the production line for the new surgical table, and was also involved in much of the decision making needed for the project's development.

The students are taught the most modern methods of manufacturing. They’re bright, they’re young, they’re enthusiastic, they help to bring the rest of the team up. It’s nice to have somebody that’s fresh and eager and motivated, coming in every day

Anton Cowell, Product Support Manager, Eschmann

Placement students are people who are keen, want to learn, want to make things better and can teach older people, like me, better ways of doing things.

Mick Gray, Mechanical Engineering Manager, Eschmann

The content for this case study was created by University of Brighton students Alison Carlyle (Marketing:Social Marketing MSc), and Eden Brackenbury (Digital Media Development BSc).
