About this scholarship
We are excited to launch this new scholarship for students seeking to complete their masters in Town Planning at the University of Brighton.
The scholarship is funded by the Royal Town Planning Institute in partnership with the British Chamber of Commerce Skills Fund. The aim of the scholarship is to encourage students to progress into careers in town planning within the public sector.
Who is eligible
To be considered for this award you must:
- have applied for a place on the Town Planning MSc at the University of Brighton before 14 June 2025
- be prepared to start the course in October 2025
- be domiciled in the UK and not required to pay international rate fees
- be self-funding (students taking out a Postgraduate Master’s Loan can apply, but applicants who will be funded by employers or other schemes are not eligible)
- be a University of Brighton graduate (or graduating this year) of one of the following courses since 2020:
Applications for the scholarship from any people meeting these criteria are welcome. Please be aware additional consideration will be given to applicants who are from widening participation backgrounds including people who are:
- minority ethnic
- care leavers
- estranged students
- forced migrants and refugees
- young carers
- have a declared disability
- home residence is in IMD Q1 or Q2 region.
How to apply
You can only apply for this scholarship once you have applied for the Town Planning MSc.
The scholarship application form will ask you to write three 200-word statements covering the following points:
- How will the scholarship transform your personal and professional development?
- What are the top three challenges faced by the sector and how do you think they should be addressed?
- What contribution do you hope to make to the sector after you complete the course?
The evaluation panel will comprise academic colleagues at the university. The panel will be looking at your:
- communication skills
- current understanding of the sector
- commitment to and vision for the future of the sector.
Awards are intended to nurture ambition and realise potential; they are not made purely on the basis of academic excellence. Please note that the evaluation panel for the scholarship will not have access to your general application for a place on the MSc, so you may reuse material from that application as you wish.
Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their studentship application by 14 September. The decision of the panel is discretionary and final.
