Intro

Our Sustainable Fashion Business MA is designed for those who want to shape the future of fashion through ethical, creative and commercially aware thinking.  

You’ll explore how sustainability and innovation can transform fashion businesses, from large global brands to independent start-ups. 

Through research, collaboration and real-world projects, you’ll learn how to integrate sustainability into business processes and explore the opportunities that emerge when creativity meets responsibility. 

You’ll learn how sustainability can be built into every stage of the fashion process, from design and production to marketing and management. When you graduate, you’ll be ready to champion innovation, inclusivity and environmental accountability throughout the entire fashion business cycle.

Degree and experience
Honours degree in any subject normally with a minimum 2:2 or equivalent. Other applicants with extensive industry experience will be considered on an individual basis.

Dr Martin Bouette, course leader

Martin is course leader for the Sustainable Fashion Business MA at the University of Brighton, where he also teaches on business studies modules across the fashion programmes.

Alongside his academic role, he is Director of a creative workspace company, supporting collaboration and innovation within the creative industries. His research focuses on creative entrepreneurship, sustainability, and the dynamics of creative ecologies.

Martin completed his doctorate exploring the career pathways of creative graduates and has led several EU-funded projects aimed at fostering new business development and growth within the creative sector.

A committed educator and researcher, he has designed and delivered innovative curricula at undergraduate, postgraduate and MBA levels. His work examines the relationship between education and employment for creative practitioners, with a particular interest in how entrepreneurial learning can bridge this gap and empower sustainable, resilient creative businesses for the future.

UK (full-time) 10,242 GBP

International (full-time) 18,792 GBP

Scholarships, bursaries and loans

We offer a range of scholarships for postgraduate students. Bursaries and loans may also be available to you.

The fees listed here are for the first year of full-time study if you start your course in the academic year 2026–27.

You will pay fees for each year of your course. Some fees may increase each year.

UK undergraduate and some postgraduate fees are regulated by the UK government and increases will not be more than the maximum amount allowed. Course fees that are not regulated may increase each year by up to 5% or the Consumer Price Index (RPI), whichever is higher.

If you are studying part-time your fee will usually be calculated based on the number of modules that you take.

Location and student life

Campus where this course is taught

City campus

City campus is located at the heart of central Brighton.

The facilities for making and designing, the theatre, galleries, workshops, studios, archives and the independent arts organisations based on site provide a unique and inspiring environment where creativity thrives.

St Peter’s House library and Phoenix halls of residence are close to the Grand Parade main building where you will find the student centre with careers, counselling, student advice service, and disability and dyslexia support. Edward Street provides extensive teaching and gallery space for media, photography and film.

Also on site are Screen Archive South East and University of Brighton Design Archives.

Brighton Pavilion, Brighton Museum and Art Gallery, the iconic pier and beach are a very short walk away. The independent shops and businesses of the North Laine and Kemptown, and Brighton main line station, with frequent express services to London, are 10 minutes walk.

Accommodation

If you booked halls by 30 June you are guaranteed an offer of a room. If you are currently looking for halls you can register your interest in available rooms now. In 2024, everyone who did this before or on A-level results day got a room offer. There is a good range of student accommodation in Brighton, including university and private halls, as well as rented rooms, flats and houses, and our team are here to support you to find the best match for you.

We have self-catered halls on all our campuses, within minutes of your classes, and other options that are very nearby.

You can apply for any of our halls, but the options closest to your study location are:

  • Phoenix halls are in the heart of the city, a short walk from City campus – and from the seafront.
  • Varley Park is a popular, dedicated halls site, offering a mix of rooms and bathroom options at different prices. It is around four miles from the city centre and is easy to get to by bus.

It's only 50 minutes by train from Brighton to central London and there are daily direct trains to Bristol, Bedford, Cambridge, Gatwick Airport, Portsmouth and Southampton.
