Fieldwork is an important part of the Brighton learning experience. You’ll develop your practical skills and apply your learning in real-life scenarios.

This could be making the most of our location on the south coast and near the South Downs National Park while trips further afield have included Cyprus, Portugal and Spain.

We’ll help you focus on your future from the very beginning. Employability skills, career planning and professional practice are embedded in each of our courses.

  • The option of a placement year provides industry experience and the opportunity to build a network of professional contacts.
  • Volunteering is another opportunity to develop your vocational skills and gain practical work experience while contributing to the wider community. Our award-winning Community University Partnership Programme (CUPP) can pare you up with a local organisation and find a placement that’s right for you.
Geology research in a lab

Research informs your learning, helping you think and act like a professional as part of your  studies.

  • You’ll learn with Brighton researchers who are tackling global problems affecting our society and the environment such as sustainable riverine management and air quality.
  • Members of our Centre of Aquatic Environments research centre collaborate with over 65 external partners including international partnerships with over 25 universities or research institutes, and international organisations and charities such as UNICEF, the World Health Organisation and Water Aid.
