Our marketing, tourism and events courses open doors to diverse and exciting career opportunities. You’ll gain practical business and marketing skills together with real experience.

Brighton is a hub for marketing and tourism innovation – attracting visitors from around the world. Working with local businesses you’ll experience live client projects and have the opportunity to take paid work placements – developing innovative approaches to problem solving, while gaining in-demand transferable skills.

Our marketing courses are 11th in the UK for graduate prospects and our tourism courses are 6th in the UK for research quality, Complete University Guide 2023.

We're also the only UK university to offer a dual-award with the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Undergraduate degrees

Our marketing degrees have been designed to provide you with the skills and confidence needed to start your marketing career, including live client experience. Whilst our tourism degrees will develop your knowledge on the impact of tourism on communities and how to make tourism more sustainable, our events courses will equip you with the experience to be able to plan, execute and promote events whilst managing risk.

Accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), our marketing management courses give you the opportunity to graduate with a degree and a CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing, and our tourism and events courses with marketing allow you to add CIM accredited marketing skills to your CV.

Marketing courses

Marketing masters degrees at Brighton have an emphasis on responsible management to help you make a positive impact in your career. You will develop your understanding of marketing from a strategic perspective, gain practical experience and you can also choose to specialise in branding and communications, digital, social or international marketing.

Accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), depending on which modules you choose, you will gain exemptions to CIM examinations, progressing you towards Chartered Marketer status.

Tourism and Events courses

Designed for graduates who have previously studied tourism or events, as well as those who wish to change their careers. By studying in a multicultural environment, putting your knowledge into context through international case studies and studying the relationships between globalisation and your sector, you will gain the knowledge and the skills you will need for your future career.

January and September start dates are available on most of these courses, please see the individual course pages for details. If you want to add valuable work experience to your CV you can also take your masters over two years with an integrated paid work placement (September start only).

PhD degrees

Research and knowledge exchange at the School of Business and Law are deeply rooted in the mission to promote responsible enterprise for a fairer society. We offer a wide variety of PhDs in tourism, events and marketing subjects at the School of Business and Law.

We also have research centres and groups which focus on the school’s particular strength in Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship, Corporate Social Responsibility and Social Justice as well as Tourism and Sustainability.

Tutors always make sure that lectures are easy to follow, interesting and engaging. I also like the fact that academic lectures are combined with field trips, as these help my studies to be more productive and effective.

Paid work placements

You'll have the opportunity to spend a year in a paid placement allowing you to apply your learning building your work experience, life skills and contacts before you graduate. 

Postgraduate placement students qualify for our two-year international study visa, and the new UK Graduate Route.

Our students have worked with companies including British Airways, Channel 4, Disney, Eagle Rock, Teenage Cancer Trust and TUI.

Focus on the future

With recent issues such as COVID-19, in-country political changes and UN Global Goals, the need for ethical marketing and consumer behaviour, as well as safe and sustainable tourism are more topical than ever.

As signatories to PRME, a United Nations initiative to raise the importance of sustainability, our courses, industry experts and experienced lecturers will help you to make a positive impact in your career.

The Chartered Institute of Marketing logo

The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) is the largest professional marketing body in the world.

We have developed modules and course structures with the Chartered Institute of Marketing for the purpose of gaining CIM qualifications through their CIM Accredited Degree scheme. This means that in addition to your degree, you can study for CIM qualifications without having to do all of the modules. 

We are the only UK university to offer a dual-award - this is available on our Marketing Management courses.
