Intro

Our three-year Business Management with Marketing BSc(Hons) will help you to develop specialist marketing expertise underpinned by up-to-date business skills and knowledge. 

You'll gain an understanding of key business and marketing functions and an appreciation of the influences that drive business and marketing decisions.

You can explore marketing topics including marketing communications, planning and strategy, market research, consumer psychology, and international and cross cultural marketing. 

At the end of your first year you can choose to continue with a Business Management with Marketing degree course BSc(Hons), or to specialise in one of the following areas:

Course content

Course structure 

In your first year you take core modules shared with our other Business Management degrees. This gives you a broad understanding of business principles.

From your second year you can also choose to specialise in the area of business which interests you most: economics, finance, human resource management or marketing. This will help you to decide which area of business you would like specialise in, whilst also preparing you to be your own boss.

Students with good first-year grades also have the opportunity to convert to the four-year Business Management with Marketing and Placement Year BSc(Hons), which includes a salaried work placement during the third year and a CMI Diploma in Management and Leadership, adding valuable experience to your CV.

Business- with Marketing

Year 1

All our Business Management degrees share the same first year core modules, giving you a broad understanding of business principles. Core modules include aspects of economics, marketing, HR, organisational behaviour and finance, to give you a broad understanding of business principles and practice. You can then choose to specialise from year 2.

    In this module you will develop your understanding of key economic concepts by applying them to contemporary issues within the world of business and through the application of quantitative techniques. You will also gain an understanding of how political, economic and environmental factors influence the world of business.

  • Marketing Principles

    This module introduces the role and function of marketing within organisational frameworks. You'll develop an understanding of basic qualitative and quantitative tools available for analysing and interpreting the marketing environment.

  • Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Management

    This module will introduce you to a range of concepts, principles and theories that have been adopted within the study of organisational behaviour and human resource management.

    This module will provide you with a grounding for understanding how people are managed and organised in the workplace.

  • Financial Knowledge and Skills for Business

    This module provides you with an introduction to fundamental concepts in the fields of financial accounting, management accounting, and finance. You will develop a basic understanding of an organisation’s financial position and performance through the application of appropriate analytical tools and procedures.

  • Enterprise Project and Skills

    I this module you will create a business plan, a project plan and a marketing plan that include a digital presence.

    You'll integrate and apply skills and learning from other year one modules using project management skills to deliver a practical and applied business project, and will need to demonstrate a clear understanding of market dynamics, financial structures and HRM employment strategies.

    The module is underpinned with a strong skills component which develops quantitative, research, project, academic, team working, personal development and business skills.

  • Managing Systems and Operations

    This module will introduce you to the use of digital technologies and operations management in business.

    The module will highlight how managers use digital technologies to measure and improve operations and systems performance, and will provide an understanding of the processes and the methods to improve them in both service-oriented and manufacturing-sector organisations. A range of contemporary issues, innovation and future trends in Information Systems (IS) and operations management will be showcased

Dr Gokhan Aydin

Gokhan is a senior lecturer and course leader on our Business Management with Marketing BSc(Hons) degrees. 

He's taught a range of topics including digital marketing, marketing management, services marketing and brand management for almost a decade. 

Gokhan is actively involved in research, primarily investigating the influence of digitalisation on consumers’ perceptions/behaviour, plus trends and developments in various facets of digital marketing. He's also worked in various marketing, product management and retail management roles in the private sector.

Gokhan is the module leader of the Digital and Social Media Marketing module. In this module students develop their understanding of digital channels and services, planning marketing activities for a brand to be delivered via these channels.

Accreditation 

This course is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

All students successfully completing a three-year Business Management route and who have passed the qualifying modules will have completed the study required for the Chartered Management Institute’s Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership.

You can apply for the certificate from the CMI, with no requirement to sit their assessments.

This course is also accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing for the purpose of gaining CIM qualifications through the Graduate Gateway.

The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) is the largest professional marketing body in the world. All students will be able to take the Introductory Certificate in Marketing award from the Chartered Institute of Marketing and by choosing specific option modules will be exempt from:

  • Certificate in Professional Marketing: Marketing module
  • CIM Diploma in Digital Marketing: Marketing and Consumer Behaviour module.

We also work with organisations to develop the content of our courses. For example, we are working with SAP, the world’s largest business software company. During our second year module, Managing Systems, students gain practical experience working as a team to manage a business scenario by using SAP’s Enterprise Resource Planning system, which is considered industry-standard software.

Entry criteria

Entry requirements

A-levels or BTEC
Entry requirements are in the range of A-level BBB–BCC (120–104 UCAS Tariff points), or BTEC Extended Diploma DMM–MMM. Our conditional offers typically fall within this range.

International Baccalaureate
26 points, with three subjects at Higher level.

Access to HE Diploma
Pass with 60 credits overall. At least 45 credits at level 3, with 24 credits at merit.

Foundation degree/HND
May enable you to start the course in year 2. Relevant subjects required. HNC may also count towards direct entry.

Studied before or got relevant experience?
A qualification, HE credits or relevant experience may count towards your course at Brighton, and could mean that you do not have to take some elements of the course or can start in year 2 or 3. 

English language requirements
IELTS 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each element. Find out more about the other English qualifications that we accept.

Don’t meet these entry requirements?
Our Business Management BSc(Hons) with integrated foundation year provides an extra year of study at foundation level if you do not have the academic qualifications or experience needed for entry to this course.

Successful completion of the foundation year enables you to progress onto year 1 of this degree.

What's included

You may have to pay additional costs during your studies. The cost of optional activities is not included in your tuition fee and you will need to meet this cost in addition to your fees. A summary of the costs that you may be expected to pay, and what is included, while studying a course in the School of Business and Law in the 2022–23 academic year are listed here.

  • Students who choose to take an optional placement will have travel and living expenses. The cost of this depends on where and how long your placement is.
  • Textbooks are available from the university library (many as e-books) but you may wish to budget up to £200 to buy your own copies.
  • For the International Tourism Management BSc, International Tourism Management with Marketing BSc, International Event Management BSc, and International Event Management with Marketing BSc, field trips are an optional activity, but we do strongly advise participation as they contribute to the overall experience of studying this degree. The cost for field trips is not included in the tuition fee and must be paid for by students, however please be assured we do try to keep field trip costs to a minimum and don't anticipate the total cost of a few field trips each year to exceed £30. If you would struggle to meet this cost, there is a hardship fund that you may be able to access.

The fees listed here are for full-time courses beginning in the academic year 2023–24.

Further tuition fees are payable for each subsequent year of study and are subject to an annual increase of no more than 5% or RPI (whichever is the greater). The annual increase for UK students, who are subject to regulated fees, will increase no more than the statutory maximum fee.

The tuition fee you have to pay depends on a number of factors including the kind of course you take, and whether you study full-time or part-time. If you are studying part-time you will normally be charged on a pro rata basis depending on the number of modules you take.

Moulsecoomb campus

Two miles north of Brighton seafront, Moulsecoomb is our largest campus and student village. Moulsecoomb has been transformed by a recent development of our estate. On campus you'll find new Students' Union, events venue, and sports and fitness facilities, alongside the library and student centre.

Over 900 students live here in our halls, Moulsecoomb Place and the new Mithras halls – Brunswick, Goldstone, Hanover, Preston and Regency.

Moulsecoomb has easy access to buses and trains and to all the exciting things happening in our home city.

All of our full-time undergraduate courses involve work-based learning - this could be through placements, live briefs and guest lectures. Many of these opportunities are provided by local businesses and organisations.

Frank Meacey

Frank Meacey is a third-year student. After studying the core economics module in his first year, Frank discovered an interest in financial foreign exchange, leading him to choose the Business Management with Economics pathway. Frank also went on to take a placement at World First Foreign Exchange in Westminster, London, allowing him to explore whether this could be a career choice for him, and to gain some practical transferable skills whilst on placement. Frank was also awarded the Alumni & Friends Award at our 2018 Excellence Awards for his second-year work.

"In the Business School the first year is very general and so that gives you a fantastic opportunity to be able to get to know as many people as possible. Then it becomes more specific to the specialism that you select. I chose marketing, there are two modules dedicated to marketing in second year and three in my final year. The further you go, the more you focus on what you’re interested in, which gives you an incentive to really stick by the course. 

"I feel as though I am more in control of my education than I was in college, not only because of the course that I chose but how I manage my time too. Outside lessons there’s lots of material that you can use to keep up and it’s a huge benefit to have that access.  And if you’ve got a different style of learning then there is some way that the university will be able to accommodate you. 

"In terms of inclusivity and diversity I’d definitely recommend Brighton. Everywhere you look you're going to be seeing somebody from a different part of the world – it has an international flavour. 

"The experience of going to a society and being able to meet new people all whilst you're doing your studies, that's been the most transformative aspect for me. I’ve been part of the Asian Society and the Debate Society. I'm able to make new friends with folks who I met within those societies. 

"I've got more of an understanding of how group work works because I hadn't really had that experience of working with a group for a project in college, this was my first taste. It’s made me realise how practical my course is. Working as a student ambassador has also given me new skills because you’re working with young people, you’re working at events doing tasks that you wouldn’t normally do. Those skills are easily transferrable and adds to my experience."
