Entry criteria

Entry requirements

The entry requirements listed here are our typical offer for this course if you wish to begin studying with us in 2018. They should be used as a general guide.

We operate a flexible admissions policy – this means that you could receive a lower conditional offer than the typical offer, informed by our assessment of your complementary non-academic achievements and experiences. For courses that require interview or portfolio review, this may also be considered in the level of any conditional offer that follows if your application is successful.

Degree and/or experience
Normally, a good bachelor's degree or equivalent is required. A degree in any subject will be considered. Work experience is useful but not essential.

Neither GMAT nor GRE are required for this course. However, if you have taken either or both of these tests and achieved good scores, this may help to strengthen your application.

Applicants who hold an HND or Foundation degree equivalent can take our nine-month Business BSc top-up degree and then progress onto this Masters degree.

For non-native speakers of English
In order to benefit from, contribute to and enjoy the course, a good command of spoken and written English language is required. If English is not your first language, you will need English language proficiency equivalent to an overall IELTS score of at least 6.5, with 6.0 in the written test and a minimum of 5.5 in the other elements.

International students whose language skills do not match the IELTS scores set out here should consider applying for this course through the Extended Masters programme at the university's Language Institute.

Course in detail

Course structure

An innovative alternative to a MBA, this one-year, full-time course is designed for graduates of any subject with or without work experience. Case studies, live client projects, company visits and the option of paid work experience help prepare you for management by putting the latest academic thinking and business strategies into practice.

Teaching takes place over three terms, from late September to early June, with breaks after assessments in mid-December to early January and late March to mid-April.

Class attendance averages 14 to 18 hours a week, plus time for group work and independent study, with variations as you progress through the course. There are some special intensive workshops on topics such as leadership, management and research, and a one-week tutor-led international study visit to companies in another European country.

Your final project will take place over the summer after teaching finishes. Your optional work-experience based final project may continue for up to one-year past the end of teaching.

The fees listed here are for full-time courses beginning in the academic year 2018–19.

Further tuition fees are payable for each subsequent year of study and are subject to an annual increase of no more than 5% or RPI (whichever is the greater). The annual increase for UK/EU students, who are subject to regulated fees, will increase no more than the statutory maximum fee.

You can find out more about our fees in the university's student contract and tuition fee policy (pdf).

Forward-thinking and welcoming, the city of Brighton & Hove is a community of creative and diverse people who share values like sustainability and inclusivity – just like its university.

Miles of pebble beaches, hundreds of bars, restaurants and clubs, a packed calendar of culture, music and sport and great independent and high street shopping attract visitors from all over the world. By the end of your course you’ll still be finding new things to enjoy about the city.

The Brighton Festival, England’s largest arts festival, takes place every May – as does the Great Escape Europe’s leading industry showcase for new music, 300 bands perform over three days at venues across the city. Major events celebrate Pride, digital culture, cinema, photography, food and the winter solstice. Our own Brighton Graduate show is a highlight, turning the university into the largest exhibition space in the south east as we celebrate the outstanding creativity of our students.

Brighton

Our Brighton halls of residence are located across the city in Grand Parade, Moulsecoomb, Varley Park and Falmer.

  • Grand Parade is in central Brighton and has one hall of residence, Phoenix Brewery, within walking distance.
  • Moulsecoomb is two miles from the city centre and also has one hall of residence, Moulsecoomb Place, on campus.
  • Varley Park offers the biggest choice of student accommodation with ten halls of residence.

"The course also increased my knowledge of how public services are managed in England in other parts of Europe. In my previous studies I was only assessed by tests. But on Brighton's MSc Management I learned a lot from the varied and different assessments. I learned by doing research, and from the case study examples in the course.

"My learning was not limited to the classroom. I also learned from the course experiences visiting companies and talking to practicing managers. The tutor-led study visits to companies were particularly useful experiences."
